About The Lasley Family Peanut Farm
The George and Alma Lasley Family started planting peanuts near Eakly in Caddo County, Oklahoma in 1939. In 1956, George and Alma, along with their son Esthel and his wife Zelma, began contracting with Oklahoma Foundation Seed Stock, Inc. to raise peanut seed. The following year, the Lasleys purchased a peanut sheller and began shelling seed for the Oklahoma Foundation Seed Stock, Inc. They continue to contract with them to this day.
The business first began with packaging shelled Spanish peanuts into 1 ½ lb. and 5 lb. packages for local distribution and also for selling at the OSU-OKC Farmers Market. The demand has continued to increase and we are now selling to a number of grocery stores, farmer co-ops, and specialty shops.
The requests for roasted peanuts and peanut candy came regularly and we were encouraged to follow our desire to venture out a little further and invest in the equipment needed to produce roasted peanuts and candies. The peanuts are roasted in an antique coffee roaster and the peanut brittle is made one batch at a time in a 4 quart pan. We make five candies; Sweet Crunchy, Cinnamon Crunchy, Peanut Patties, Peanut Clusters and the ever popular Peanut Brittle. Zelma has acquired an excellent reputation for her candy making skills. We also have Roasted and Salted Peanuts, After Five Peanuts, and Hot and Spicy Peanuts. Gift baskets of assorted products are available year round. You can now find these products in convenience stores, grocery stores, farmer co-ops, and specialty shops.
In 1970, George, Alma, Esthel, and Zelma incorporated and their farming business became known as Lasley 4L Corporation. In addition to peanuts, they also raised wheat, cotton, cattle and another generation of Lasley children. The third generation of Lasleys grew up working on the farm and most continue to do so to this day. On October 1, 2003, the families decided to pursue a new business venture. We felt very strongly that it was a logical step to utilize the peanut sheller and make products that could be marketed to the public. So we formed the Lasley Family Farm, LLC to produce value-added peanut products.
The Lasley family has raised peanuts for over 60 years, we find satisfaction in planting the seeds, harvesting the peanuts, and processing them into tasty, high quality food products for people to enjoy.
